BlankBats Red+ Review
« on: May 25, 2012, 05:59:43 AM »

22 May 2012 is the date which will be in my mind for sometime in foreseeable future not only due to the fact I received my much anticipated BlankBat Red+ for which I was yearning ever since BlankBats was conceived. Moreover, reason behind reminiscence of that date is that I spent entire morning outside my main-door waiting for the FeDex van as I was waiting to get my hands on MBA! My day started as my eyes opened at 9:30 AM and before even wearing my glasses I tracked the parcel, after discerning no difference from what I saw on Friday I started to browse through CustomBats, CricketInsight, Hotmail, Cricistan and lastly just before I was about to get out of bed I tracked for one more time at 9:59 AM and I saw that at 9:53 AM my BlankBats parcel was on the van. Much anticipated I just rushed downstairs, opened main door and rushed out of it. Running like Bruce Lee and exiting as RCMP is chasing me for any transgression that I have committed, my mom who was watching TV at that time was frightened by my act and inquired if all is well. After explaining her intricate situation, I was asked to come inside at least for a breakfast. I came inside the house hesitantly and brushed my teeth's before running out again, as time progressed my breakfast was delivered to me by my lovely mother and after finishing it, I never bothered to drop the tray in kitchen.

Anxiously waited for FeDex van and time was passing much slower than it would normally do. For a minute I thought I was in prison where a hour was going like a year, had sympathy for Salman Butt after thinking what he must be going through? Finally at 2:43 PM I saw a van entering my court, it was rather a U-Haul van and I was like "Who is moving in my court today?" and to my amusement the truck stopped in front of my driveway. Rushed towards him like a five year old would rush to Ice-Cream van, after spotting a box in his hands which obviously looked like a bat box and I was like here is my BlankBat. After paying the driver all the dues which were due, I rushed inside and started to open the box as I was five year old kid, but to people near me, I looked as a low IQ university student. As I opened the package, I saw how proficiently it was packed by 100 not out (Thank you very much :) )

Threw the gloves aside and took the blade out of the box as I were taking out a sword and getting ready for a duel. Got my hands on the bat and first thing that were uttered from my mouth were "Oh God this is exceptional". Took a deep breathe and started to scrutinize the bat as I was part of CSIS team working on a impromptu task! I wore my Salix Pod Black gloves and held the bat and then uttered the words "There is no way this bat is 2.12! Canners is lying" ended with a slight grin on my exuberant face. Now coming onto meat, it looks as I have a raw pressed cleft in my hands! Forget the peak edges, the shoulders itself are thicker than most of my bats peak edges! It is such a huge bat for its weight, I'm still in denial mode and can't believe it is a 2.12 stick. I won't believe until I weigh it myself!

Did shadow batting as I was Don Bradman of current era and played few strokes which gave me further belief that this bat is real-deal. The feel and balance of the bat was as it is a two pounds and eight ounces bat, mind you all this was with one single chevron grip. Took out the brand new Uzi Sports Anson ball which I have kept solely for bats assessments, bounced the ball and the first one went and directly struck the roof! Within a second I was stupefied by the outcome, after proceeding the act briefly I was assured that BlankBats have sent me a remarkable timber. Tossing the ball aside, I took out the mallet and tapped the bat as I was Tim Keeley and trying to listen to sound of the bat as an adept. After being satisfied in that facet, I went to examine the bat aesthetically and counted twelve linear lines, which are known as 'Grains'. Ran my fingers over the bat face and spine, it felt as my fingers were on a silk as it was so smooth and perfectly finished bat. After initial scrutinization, I brought my 'Grip Box' and after some sweating and substantial task, I was finally able to reach the end point which was a half snake grip underneath with double thickness chevron grip on top. Nevertheless, it would have been icing on cake had the handle been thicker, by thicker I mean very very thick! Even the Screaming Cat handle which is thickest feels thin to me now! I'm no Clive Lloyd in terms of hand size but rather have average size hands but don't know how I fell into thick handles! But no worries, I have rubber grips which does the trick for me, thanks to Roco for giving me those valuable tips which helps me transform thin handle into what I like, so thank you very much mate, I appreciate it :).

Wore my Salix Pod Black gloves once again and the handle was now feeling perfect in my hands. To be honest, the weight and feel, hardly felt any different as bat in its initial stage felt exactly same. This manifested how well, this bat is constructed by the world re-owned and worlds leading bat-maker. After Screaming Cat Series 1 this is one bat to which I would say feels and meets my needs as the shape is based upon my expectations and for this season it will be definitely going in my 'Bat Cave' alongside Screaming Cat.

Later I realized that a pair of gloves were sent in the parcel, took off my Salix Pod Black gloves and tried them on and I must say I was once again I was amazed, the comfort level on the gloves and fitting was laudatory. The soft feel of WR100 pittards and the comfort level made me feel as my hands were on a memory form, such soft and comfortable they were. No wonder our beloved Stig rated them so high when Buzz and Canners had nets with him. A person who is sponsored by GM and is wearing GM gloves for a good amount of time, praised the gloves highly! However, I must add here that since I had been wearing split style gloves for past three or so months, BlankBats gloves were tad stiff but with more use I'm sure they will improve. The outer side, tip of fingers is quite vulnerable area.

Over the course of three years, many woods have entered and left through portal in my room so using the all experience I have, I didn't take long to conclude that this BlankBats Red+ is among the top three bats I have ever held and owned. Last but not least it is by far the BEST bat I have ever owned in terms value. It is cheapest Grade 1 (except Redback Paradox Limited Edition) which I have in my crib and yet it is aesthetically most gratifying. My brother does not play cricket but whenever he comes home and more importantly my room to check out the willows, he drools over the face to look at the grains. He throws everything aside and says "Mate there is not even a singly bat in your collection which has good grains", I'm sure when he comes home on Saturday he will enter denial mode seeing the BlankBats Red+ face and its thickness.

Last but not least it was absolute pleasure to deal with 100 not out and Canners (BlankBats). Believe me I have been after a Twenty20 bat ever since BlankBats was conceived, I remember when I gave Canners he replied with a grin and said "Mate you want a Cenkos here?" With the non-stop messages I send to purveyor and considering how I am pain to deal with, 100 not out and Canners were available for me round the clock to assist me, I was touched by there gesture. If my bank permits me, I will be knocking BlankBats door once again and give them some headache :(.

They say no matter what you will get what is in your destiny, and less being said number seven is my favourite number and bat handle had a sticker with number seven written on it :D.

I wish BlankBats all the best for future. I see absolutely no reason why they won't be successful in the market, mark my words today. BlankBats is here to stay and will clean many boundaries.

Any question(s) please don't hesitate to ask :).

Adieu :)

now that looks like a proper bat!! My BB is great but it has a thin round handle, does this one have an oval handle?

I took Roco's advice on the homemdae oval so i can get by with it.
