Talent Cricket Custom Bats
« on: June 11, 2012, 08:23:45 PM »

How good are the custom made bats from talent cricket? I have read they are made by hunts county but not sure.
Also what weight would be best for someone moving from a harrow to a super short handle who wnats a bat with a big middle but not too heavy 2.6 or 2.7 but i think 2.8 would be too heavy. So would a 2.6 have a big middle or would I need a 2.7?

How tall are you? Because if you're not that tall I'd recommend a SH width bat but Harrow length, then you could get a decent size middle even at something like 2lb 6oz

Yep they are made by Hunts. Give the guys at Talent a call, they know their stuff and will be more than pleased to help.

If you're 5ft 2in then you only need a harrow bat

Really?!? I would definitely recommend a 4 1/4 inch width with a harrow length handle and blade.

Actually, just get a heavy harrow sized bat, the smaller width and total length will mean even in 2lb 6oz, you will still get a bigger bat than a 2lb 7oz or maybe even a 2lb 8oz standard SH bat

Matt from H4L made me a harrow length/full width SH. Would suit you down to the ground.

Here's the thing... everyone has their own preferences. If I were in your shoes I'd ask the players at my club and have a look at their bats. I'm sure the senior players would be happy to give you some advice.

Failing that I'd get down to my local specialist cricket retailer and have a look at their range of bats. You can see in the flesh as it were what the differences are, then see how each difference affects the pick up. Speak to the guys in the shop and I'm sure they'll be able to help. For example I know the guys at Talent - Both Paul and Chris play ECB Premier Cricket and Paul played County 2's when he was younger. They know the game and know their products.

Same will go for most cricket shops, pick the right one and you'll get all the help you need.

I think a harrow would be better because when I tried a sh he top of the handle got in the way a bit eespecially if I tried to play the ball off my pads. But anyway what difference does the bow make, either slight or large or none

Not much. It's more important to have some ability. You could have the best bat in the world, but it won't do you any good if you can't wield it properly

Get some coaching, get some experience, make some runs. There's loads of really great advice on here, but your local club with it's local coaches who actually see you play will make a huge difference to you. It's really clear you want to improve and have the best kit etc, but actually playing the game is the best way to learn. Play and practice as often as you can. Listen to people. You will get there, but there is no fast track.
