Cricket In Belgium
« on: June 22, 2012, 02:17:41 PM »

Just got back from my club's 25th anniversary tour to Belgium. 5 days away, 4 cities - St.Omer, Lille, Gent and Brussels. 3 battlefields - Azincourt, Waterloo and Ypres, 2 matches Vs Gent Arcadians and 12 stars Brussels, average age 48 years and nearly 1000 pints drunk by 14 tourists and a teetotal driver. Priceless.

2 losses but a good standard of cricket against teams containing ex pats, Aussies, Bokkers, Asian lads, Belgium and French nationals and a Jamican. The opposition skippers both mixed up the batting and bowling lineups to reflect our social cricket standard and played the games in a really excellent spirit with a cracking apres match social.

Both cities can be re comended for mid or end of season tours - just be warned that there are no grass strips in Belgium only astro turf.

Cheers.
