What are you using to shape it? Your teeth? Lol

Your best of using a number 4 plane and using.it in one stroke from middle of the bat to tie and then middle of the bat to shoulders.

Either blunt or you're trying to take off too much at once. Be like Beachy and leave the spine 'til last!

Looks like the tools are blunt but more then anything you look like you are taking too much off and shaving in the wrong directions....

Hold the plane at a slight angle not straight [perpendicular] on the blade.....

At the toe the grain of the bat goes in a different direction so the plane blade cut will need to go towards the toe. [that is why is it furry down there] Higher up the blade avg about 5 inches ish [this varies] from the toe the cut will be towards the handle.

That should sort you out I hope...

Hi.
The tools all started working a lot better once they were sharpened up a bit (As my fingers can attest to!)
Thanks for all the advice, it's finished now, and pictures are up on another thread.
Cheers
