Slazenger Ultimate Wheelie Bag 2015
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:07:54 AM »

After a season and a half of searching through my woodworm duffle and always being the last to leave the change rooms after a match i switched back to a wheelie. Being strapped for cash i had to look for a cheap bag with plenty of pockets. Being in Australia exchange rates and postage charges are normally a killer, i got this from Sportsdirect for $70 delivered. That's £30 for the bag.

It's basically the 2013 standup wheelie without the bat vault or standup frame. I like the fact the wet vault can hold my helmet, gloves inners and protector, leaving the other pocket free to hold my boots, towel and whites. Have two bats in the main compartment, but it could take a couple more if i need to take bats home for repairs.

Shortcomings: no bat pockets, shoulder strap or grab handle at both ends for loading into boot. Perhaps a internal pocket in the main compartment for valuables and zippers that allows for a padlock.

You get what you pay for, but this is definitely better than my old Kookaburra wheelie. The duffle was nice, but after losing  bits and pieces unpacking it everywhere the novelty wore thin. There are better bags out there, but this represents good value imo.

Prepare yourself for the stitching to disintegrate within weeks.A few people at my club had slazenger sports direct bags and all had the same problems

Noted. I'll keep an eye on that and hopefully get a couple of seasons out of it.

I had very similar to this bag in grey, red and yellow.  Unfortunately the zips didn't last long at all!  :(

I had one of them, think it lasted about 3 weeks before the zips stopped working and the stitching inside came undone.
Was a waste of £6  :(

Check. Be gentle on the zipper.  I'll be using it for the next 7 weeks until our season is over. I'll report back when/if damage occurs.

I agree with your reasoning though, I am also fed up of digging in the duffle to find stuff. Will be changing to a wheelie in new season or a more organised duffle than ton one.

I've never had a duffle as such but have a large GN Xiphos stand-up bag at home which I hardly used.  Just don't like only an end opening, prefer the full large top section to open up.  I then bought the GM Original Duplex Wheelie which I used all of last season. Twin bat cave, but if anything this bag is just too big.

Have a £25 B&S wheelie bag on order for this season.  Will either stick with that, or if I don't like it perhaps get a Salix Pod Pro Wheelie as I've seen one and they're great quality.

Wish all those options were available in stores here, but we get the big five brand manufacturers mainly and they charge like monopolies. Wheelie bags in this price range seem to be mostly the same here with one big compartment and a few outside pockets. Pay double or triple and a few more options appear. I hate having my bats dented by the helmet and sprigs, so the wet vault is handy.

Hopefully its not all doom and gloom like some of you have mentioned. Cheap zips are a real worry, stitching is fixable. I think it's a well designed bag for the price and hope the quality issues are the exception rather than the norm.

My OCD packing, along with putting a bag in a bag in a bag in my bag make the TON almost organised.
Whited and shoes at the top in their own bags so they're the first things I grab, helmet and strippers placed at the bottom with everything else wherever it landed  :D

GM Original Duffle may take that digging around element out of it as it opens in the middle too. You might not be able to get a pad out but gloves, sack protector & thigh pad will be easy enough!

I did that. Bag for helmet, bag for boots, bag for clothes, bag for other things. I think the Ton and Woodworm Pro Duffle are similar. I wish the front pocket held the helmet or shoes, then, I'd persist.

Its fine and is getting some positive comments. Looking around the change rooms there are plenty of Slazenger bags still going strong, considering they have not been sold in Aus retail shops since  Clarke used one I think it will do a few seasons....unlike my body.
