Doweling
« on: August 30, 2012, 06:11:09 PM »

I was wondering how folks here do doweling for bat repairs. A search on the forum came up with some answers, but not everything I was looking for.

Can you get by with a regular powerdrill and a steady hand? Or do I really need to find a pillar drill?

Also how far into the bat do you drill? All the way through to the other end, or just a little bit past the crack?

a little bit past the crack, hand drill is fine - make sure the whole is tight, not to big for the dowel.

I was under the impression that the dowel needed to go through the whole of the bat (full width). Although I've never done it, yet.

to what ends? , by which i mean, why would it need to go the whole way though?

Thanks Ross, will give that a try.

You've obviously done a fair few bat repairs (I saw your "how to fix a bat toe" step by step pictorial), so appreciate your input.

fun enough I've just done another one of them this week!

Yes I have fixed a few bats, and a put in a few dowels in, with much success.

The other thing is, do a "normal" fix first (i.e. glue the split), then drill the whole and fix in the dowel... just in case

Good luck.
