Custom bats versus off-the-shelf?
« on: May 25, 2009, 02:50:59 PM »

My current bat has cracked in the toe, I had it repaired by Hunts County but it's gone again after 7 innings with it. It's a Woodworm Premier Torch weighing 2lb 9oz give or take an ounce. I had a 2lb 11oz one before it, but I found it too heavy and it cracked right through the middle all the way up the bat. Before the Woodworms, I used a Newbery Series 1 Five Star in harrow and liked it. I have found that despite knocking in my bats the toes have all cracked quickly. Would this be less likely to occur with a bat with a lower middle?

I now need a new bat. It needs to come knocked in because I will need to use it almost immediately. Preferably it would be 2lb 8oz or 9oz but if it was 2lb 10oz but felt lighter that would be fine. I also think that the bat should have a slightly lower than average middle. All in it needs to cost £150 or less with delivery and knocking in. I have already emailed some bat makers to inquire about prices. Please suggest my best options as I am having difficulty choosing.

Thanks in advance.

I think I might get another bat just in case for the future, after all it's not like bats go off.

I would like the general consensus on the (my potential) bats below:
- Salix Fera Grade One
- Woodworm Gold Satellite or Mega Bite
- Solitaire Custom Bat
- CE Custom G1

Which do people think would be the best? I'm curious to see how people think the custom bats compare to a high end off-the-shelf bat like the Salix.

Thanks again.
