You could use some medical tape of wider size than the frayed fabric and stick it on. The tapes are stretchy type fabric.

Cotton tape I think it is?
I used to use it on the bottom of my old pads to stop them wearing out to much before I had a kit buying obsession

I did too, but it leaves a gluey residue on your shoe, so not so good for us OCD sufferes.
