The ones Ian Botham is wearing are St Peter gloves. They were around from about 1975 to 1980 when the company went bust.  At the time, they were the coolest gloves around. In the late 70s, SP gloves and pads were used by lots of players, even if they had a bat contract with someone else.

The other players who used the SP one peice gloves included Tony Grieg, Clive Lloyd, Rod Marsh, Brian Close, Mike Brearley, Zaheer Abbass, Richard Hadlee and many, many more

The spyder pair have been slightly updated to have a towelling wrist and velcro fastening. The orignal SP gloves just had an elastic wrist; towelling wrists didn't come in until the mid 80s

Other manufacturers had similar designs, but had to make sure they didn't infringe SP's intellectual property. DF had gloves with a 2 piece back, GM had a one piece back design, but with separate fingers, SS had an armadillo design and Morrants had their own take on it.

I had a pair of the SP mitten gloves and loved them. I think the spyder ones look great as well.

Mortimer, I remember a guy at my club had a pair of the DF 2 finger gloves. He used them as he had a webbed finger on one hand so those gloves were perfect for him. Did the SP mittens not have fingers in the glove bit as well at some point (if that makes sence) ?

I had a pair like this in the early to mid 90's but I can't remember who made them. They had red and blue lettering across them, anyone know what I'm on about? I had a powerspot at the time as well.

Sounds like you may have has the ss turbo ones goochie used to wear, although they weren't full mitts

We used to make our own as kids, me mom always wondered where her sponges went to. No good for protection, but with your school cap and collar turned up on your shirt you were Tony Greg

It's not a Magnum; the picture is too early for a Magnum. It's a 5 star supreme or polyplastic. The pic is probably 1978 or 79; the Magnum didn't come out until 80/81.

Those SP mitten gloves were the bees knees when I was a kid.

Then, they simply vanished.

I had no idea at the time that Saint Peter went broke.

I never knew that Tony Greig designed them himself.
