Ayrtek one for you
« on: November 15, 2012, 07:20:06 PM »

well on wednesday something pretty horrendous happened  :( i was bowling it was a great bouncy track so i decided to flex my muscles and try a bouncer, i hit someone underneath their helmet the ball came in at such an angle that it hit the bottom of his face and mangled his lower jaw it was obviously broken. he was sent to my dads maxofacial department in birmingham but i felt horrible... is there any way to prevent this through new helmet design as he had no idea what was coming and a helmet i thought should be able to protect the batsman if i gets hit in the head. Ayrtek do you have any ideas to make a helmet that could have prevented this ?

How was he hit exactly? Was his head was back exposing his chin/jaw in the normal fashion when u throw ur head back to try and avoid a bouncer?

Lots of work going on to improv the international helmet safety standard in 2013 at the moment which were trying to do our part to help with.

I usually employ the preventative tactic of carrying a cricket bat when o go out to bat.

Has worked well for me thus far.

Aside from all the other responses, don't beat yourself up about it...These things happen in sport.

Quite right. I've bounced one into someone's nose in a match, messy, painful for him, and he didn't even have the dececny to fall over onto his stumps. I apologised and he went to hospital. He wasn't wearing a helmet. It just happens.

I have had the pleasure of knocking someone's teeth out and bowling him just to rub salt in... That's a few years ago when I was a young angry fast bowler... Aaahhh they were the days :D
