I just literally got my first aid halve an hour ago and it got me thinking, before i got it would i know who to go to at my club?
Do you? or do you have first aid and do others know?
And what sort of first aid?
has your club got a plan? or a defibrillator and someone who knows how to use it?

just got me wondering..
It saves lifes.

As its a requirement when doing your coaching course we have loads at out club, and the majority know we're qualified first aiders. No defibrillator that I'm aware of (but there might be a reason I've not been told).

Just because you have a certificate to say you're qualified it doesn't mean you won't flap and panic in a situation, I'd be about as much use as a chocolate fire guard in an accident!

I know quite a few folk who have first aid qualifications at the club. Personally, I feel that you should have a rough idea of who to approach if a problem occurs, as a cricket ball to the head can be lethal! (Unless you wear an Ayrtek at all times ofc. ) But, as an example, yesterday I was at the pre-season indoor nets, and I was running in to bowl, and just as I was nearing my delivery stride, a ball was hit out of the net next to mine, and I was pretty much mid jump. If I hadn't brought my hand up in time, that would have hit me in the neck or head. I would have certainly wanted someone who knew what to do to be around if that did happen!

The ball ended up hitting my bowling middle finger, which left a seam mark, and forced the seam of the ball I was bowling with to cut into my finger... I think I have a hairline fracture or something, but better than a ball to the head! I also got nailed in the box by my brother, which was pretty darn painful, beforehand. All on Chinese New Year as well... Snakes must hate me.

Yes people know I'm a first aider and have had to deal with a few serious injuries at work let alone cricket

I had to teach first aid as part of a training role that i had with a previous employer. A lot of it is common sense, that said when someones screaming with pain or the bloods squirting out its hard to remain calm, add to it a crowd round you and you've got instant stress.

Defibs are straight forward the ones we had were automated and told you what to do. They have them in shopping centres on cruise liners, leisure centres etc.

Before anyone asks it wasn't St Johns Ambulance (They do a good job honest).

Remember this, If the face is pale raise the tail (legs, unless broken or fractured) If the face is red raise the head, if the face is blue your in the pooh (cos they're probably already dead)

I think everyone should get trained, if not to use it at work or at the club then at home cos thats where most accidents happen.

Now on a lighter note

The thing I remember about first aid training, from back in the day when not everyone had mobile phones, was first of all, if it's bad, call an ambulance, and if you don't have someone you can trust to do it, go and do it yourself! Now you just do that from the spot and get on with the rest of it. No need to search for a working payphone.

I am trained in CPR/first aid and AED, just had refresher training 2 weeks ago as I am also a firewarden at work. We dont have an AED kit at ground but trained to use it if need be...

All i remember from my course and what i think is the most important is make sure the person is comfortable and ring a ambulance!

Yes, the most important part of First aid is to help the patient comfortable . It depends on the form of injury, but anyways if its serious the first step is to call an ambulance.
