keeping debate
« on: February 14, 2013, 01:44:55 PM »

So after the rapid rise of Buttler in the recent series there was a report on the daily mail site which suggests england may request he keeps full time and that he has said he may leave somerset rather than fight it out with Kieswetter for the gloves. What are your thoughts? if you were somerset who would you want?

my theory is that Buttler should keep full time at somerset with Kiesey taking the gloves when Buttlers on England Duty. i dont want to see another case where we have to get Snell in to cover when they are both away. as Good as Snell has been im not sure hes good enough to be the second choice keeper for a team striving for championships etc.

Can't see Kieswetter getting in anymore squads really but he is a better keeper I think. Prior rarely keeps when he goes back to Sussex but he will play more imternational cricket than Buttler this summer. It's strange they've gone with Buttler to keep instead of Bairstow.

i personally think Buttler is a better allround player than bairstow. Bairstow is pretty decent in the field so that could be a reason hes in the team but not keeping. buttler is no slouch in the field but Bairstow seems to be a favourite for boundary riding and diving around saving runs.

Kieswetter is unlikely to feature internationally this year unless he has a blinder of a summer and makes it onto an lions tour.he is a decent keeper so why not let buttler do it for a bit in the hope that he keeps his england place. at the end of the day they have a worldclass keeper batsman to cover if he does spend half the summer in the one day and t20 squads so there wont be any need to panic and have to find a part time keeper t cover

I haven't seen enough of Buttler or Bairstow keeping to comment intelligently, but from what I've seen of Bairstow in the field he's outstanding.

Could it be that the selectors are selecting on keeping AND fielding abilities rather than keeping in isolation?
