Do I need therapy?
« on: May 13, 2013, 12:52:52 PM »

Does anyone else cringe at the idea of their match bat getting wet during a rain shower?

Do people have a 'damp weather bat' – i.e. something you don't love as much, when they know the forecast is for light rain etc?

I have a new bat I am in the process of knocking in and using a few times at nets, doesn't get a look in whilst the weather stays as it is! Didn't even take it to my game at the weekend. My good old £30 second hand bat is still going strong!

Whilst umpiring in the rain yesterday I did actually think, thank god I got out, wouldn't want to be using my bats in these conditions! I think I would borrow someone else's for rain...

Yeah I was really unhappy about having to bat in drizzle yesterday, certainly isn't good for the willow. I was standing at the bowlers end with the bat under my arm as covered as possible, at no point letting it touch the wicket. Then to just face balls and have "mud cherries" after hitting a shot...

I'm going to have to get myself a wet weather bat.

I usually use my t20 bat's if the weather or pitch is bad (RNS or kooka)

In my view not worth risking my number 1 bat (L&W R/b52) in the rain or on a pitch that is wet/damp.

Ball also becomes heavy with the moisture, more likely to break the bat

really annoys me and so do people who, when wanting to have a look and feel of your bat, hammer it into the ground whether it is concrete, tiles or on the lush green outfield ....

if it is wet when i am batting i will ask to come off the field!

Ok I’m not the only one with an OCD then. ;)

I must admit before joining this forum batting was about piling on the runs, not the bat I use. Admittedly I used less expensive bats then too. This season my mindset is more about playing long innings and getting runs but can’t help but be a little protective over my bats.

I guess I would still want my rainy day bat to be half decent and not just a plank.

I have a H4L Hatorri which I got from Simmy and it's a pinger!
But I accidently knocked it in a railing and there are two dents in the face, very near the toe!
Therefore it has become my wet weather bat as it already has a couple of dents and a surface crack, so feel that I can use it in damp conditions without too much worry! It's loved and appreciated still and I bet it lasts longer than some other bats I have!

I'm far less picky about what i use when, although if it its truly soaking wet, both the instinct and Hades stay in the hutch and the B3 or MIDS come out.
