thanks for turning out - S London-ish
« on: May 11, 2013, 10:14:26 AM »

Having recently made a 250 mile round trip to discover I wasn't selected, I've decided to try to find some casual cricket more locally. This doesn't mean that the other team will not have my services, rather that I will have something to do if they do manage to give notification etc. early enough. The bad news for me is that I'll more than likely get a shadow set of kit for each location. The good news for forum sponsors is that I'm looking to buy.
I'm Croydon based and play at a VERY ropey standard.
This is genuine.
Don't expect me to be pathologically modest, before turning up and smiting a brisk ton and taking a cheap five-fer then buying a round of drinks.
Nor am I lithe and agile in the field these days. But if you want an extra but less than mobile fielder, I might be your man.

That's some journey, I have a 40 mile round trip when playing home games but that's nothing to what you've done.
Would you describe yourself as a 'mercenary'?
I like the ' I've decided to find some casual cricket more locally' It conjures up a vision of you having played casual cricket, rolling over and striking up a cigarette. Also would you ask the name of your casual cricket team and would you see them again and lastly would you ask 'Was it good for you'   :D

TW - I run a social side on a Sunday, based in Beckenham. We play most of our games in SE London and a bit in NE Kent. Need a player in Dulwich tomorrow actually. If you have basic co-ordination you'll look pretty good!

And we don't mind being used.

Hey Trypes - if you are willing to trawl the M3 - Croydon corridor, then we of the mighty Chertsey CC may have a few slots for you.

Thanks for all the replies guys - I am far from being a mercenary. As I said, I need to get some kit organised down here and I am also in the process of sorting transport which is a major priority so it may take me a week or two May 26 might be a bit early, but it has given a definite date to focus on so thanks again for that. Bruce, what with your flourish and my 'ugly smear' what's not to like?  ;)
