Jester
« on: January 27, 2013, 03:28:08 PM »

So, I'm a bit bored this afternoon. Been watching FA Cup but not too interested as Millwall are already through safe and sound.

Was just getting my kitbag sorted for nets this afternoon, and having a play with my Jester (thats NOT a euphamism...promise), and thought Id do a review of it.

I bought it about half way through last season, after seeing it in the Wisden good gear guide. I was intruiged by the shape, and while searching the internet for it came across this forum! Hence the magical story of my early life on this forum.

The bat was 2lb 10oz when I ordered it I think, but with a thick second spiral grip, some shoe goo and some filler in it it now weighs 2lb 12oz, but it picks up at least 2oz lighter. Feels significantly lighter than my CA which is 1/4oz heavier. Not sure about the spine, but edges are at least 41mm.

I had it knocked in by Black Cat, and it taps up superbly. It has quite a lot of grains too (I count 11?), and looks like really great willow.

I used it a few times last season, but because of the weather not that many. Played 2 T20 games and got 7 and 31* with it. Used it in a couple of a Sunday games but cant really remember tham now.

I think the real benefit of this bat comes if you use it as you would a SH bat. Your average shot will go faster and further, and really is perfect for players who dont play huge shots but time the ball. Obviously the option is there for big hitters, and can clear boundries with ease. The first time I brought it out was our T20 day, and pretty much the whole team were salivating over it. They were all mighty impressed with it, I let a few hit a ball or 2 with it and you could see the ball went some just from throw downs.

Below are pics, this is my first attempt using photobucket and sorry the photos arent best quality, but Im just playing about on th iPad.

T20 style bats are an interesting one. I reviewed the bulldog, joker and mmi3 together a couple of years ago, and came to the conclusion that to get the best out of them, you need to stop the red mist descending and play proper shots. That's where you get the biggest bang for your buck. It just ends up being tricky!

Definitely agree. You can really tell the difference when you middle one. Even if you hit it close to a fielder, they have little chance of stopping it.

You should just play your natural game, and know that you're getting extra value for your shots. If you do find yourself in a game situation needing 6 off 2 or something, then it's down to you. The bat will never win you the game...

I am now the proud owner of this beast.

I've only two words for this bat......f######### Amazing!

It taps-up better than my Tempo (which is the best bat I've ever had).

I took the scuff sheet off to see the grains, it's X rated it looks that good (photos to follow).

Can only say how smug it feels to wield this beast.

Glad youre enjoying it mate. Just seen your email.

I almost regret selling it, apart from the fact that it wasnt going to get used very much thanks to all the bats ive bought off here.
