Newbery Bat Face Dimensions
« on: June 18, 2013, 10:50:50 AM »

Just received a Newbery Mjolnir 2.8oz to add to my Newbery collection. I currently have 1 GT, 2 Thruxtons and now a Mjolnir and have noticed that the GT and Mjolnir face is 106mm wide and and the Thruxton is 108/109mm wide which is a noticeable difference.

Has anyone notice this or am I going mad!!

A lot of brands are doing this at the moment. A narrower bat means more wood can go into the edges and swell of the middle.

Personally i would rather have a bat that is as wide as possible, B&S are the only brand i've seen recently who consistently produce full width bats.

It is psychological for me if the bat is narrower you feel exposed. The GT and Mjolnir have similar spines so that explains it.

send it back, it's not a standard adult bat. If enough people did this then Newbery won't do it in future.

Send it back and ask for a like for like (wider of course!), you never know, you may get an upgrade!

I've noticed my Black Cat Jester is narrower. Doesn't say that on the website.

lol - don't go there! I was ranting about this a couple of years ago on this forum, I think regarding the Joker. Joker/Jester are harrow width bats.
