So in another thread, and I've read it on here before, this is mentioned as a no no and I was wandering if there is a particular reason behind it.

I tend to bounce a ball on the side of my bat a lot whilst waiting to go in to bat, but I also hate when I miss time one (a common occurrence) and it takes a piece of wood out, or dents and cracks the edge open.

You compress the face down from front to back with pressing and knocking in but by knocking in the edges you are going against that  which could cause more damage than the odd miss hit

Haha could be useful for a reverse paddle? (what about that T20 GN bat?)

So should I stop bouncing balls on the edge?
Is there anything I can do, aside from using the face of the bat, to stop those ugly damages when misting the ball?

Bouncing a ball is ok as long as its done for concentration reasons and you are not trying to hit it high in the sky, Mallet is a lot more force than a ball bouncing would ever exert on the wood.
