Newbery 2014 Bat Stickers
« on: November 04, 2013, 05:55:01 PM »

A quick question as I cannot find the answer here or on the World Wide Web.

The new bat stickers on the face, is the model of the bat a separate sticker or is it apart of the newbery branded sticker?

Ok let's take the Newbery GT as an example.

On the face sticker, is the GT name a separate sticker or is it apart of the larger sticker with the Newbery logo on.

The reason I ask is because I have a Newbery lightweight which they no longer make. Once it has come back from a refurb I have to put new stickers on. I don't want to put another bats sticker on the lightweight, therefore was looking to put a current sticker without the model name.

Meh so confusing, I might just cut the model name out with scissors.

Oh I see.

My Mojolnir has separate stickers off the top of my head. Will double check when I get home but I'm pretty sure that's the case. I saw your bat whilst I was there on the weekend, Lewis showed it to us whilst we were talking about oiling bats.

Haha you did? Did he say it was over oiled? I wouldn't be surprised, I was 13 when I oiled it, had no idea what I was doing.

They seemed pretty excited when they saw the bat lol, not sure what they thought when I left.

No he didn't say it was over oiled, he was just highlighting his point that oiling bats isn't required these days. He also said that I didn't need to knock in my new bat and that it only required playing in in the nets. Didn't stop me from giving it a good hammering at home mind.

What was his reasoning for not needing to knock in and oil bats nowadays?  ???

I disagree with the oiling part, simply because I had a Bulldog, which was 2.9 and a half, had always been 2.9 and a half, and a week later, it was 2.10 and a half. It had been at my friend's house, which was probably a touch more damp than mine, so it had moisture uptake. The friend ended up returning it to me, since it just felt too heavy, and I was surprised when I weighed it. Oiling helps keep moisture in and out of the bat. Some people prefer not to oil, as they feel it dampens the performance of a bat. I don't know if it does or not, but ever since my beloved unoiled Genesis Tornado bat cracked at the edge, thanks to a clubmate hitting out catches with it, I've always made sure I coat my bats with oil, or at least scuff them up and tape the edges. I would always recommend oiling or waxing the exposed willow once, especially over the winter.

To be honest, I can't remember. I had quite a heavy night out in Brighton the night before and was quite hungover. I think he said something along the lines of the way it is pressed and finished mean that Newbery's don't need it and are ready to take straight into the nets. It's probably different with other bats.

Hey Krs

If I understand the question you're asking... they're separate.

I tried to take some shots for you to reference, but I've probably got the worse stickers to photograph.

You can just about see the split... if you look very, very closely :)

John you super star!!!!

Thanks!!!

Now that I know this I might get the Kudos stickers minus the kudos sticker. Love the simplicity of them.

Lovely bat mate!!  I had a play around with these at Newbery and the felt awesome! Shame they were £300+ :(

Ah John beat me to it! I just double checked, they are separate. As a matter of fact, mine are wonky!
