Youth pads vs Small men's pads
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:56:13 AM »

Hi everyone!

I have tried to search the forum but could not find the answer I was looking for.

Basically I want to know what are the difference between Youth pads and Small men's pads, construction wise, and actual size.

I am 5-8 and I find the standard men's pads to big, my knee comes under the knee roll. My instep to middle on the knee is 38cm.

Thanks for your help in advance

I forgot to add, I was looking at the blank bats, b3 pads. The youth pads are almost half price compared to the small men's.

I also found this sizing guide on talent cricket which says youths and smallness are the same size.

http://www.talentcricket.co.uk/pages/general-services.html

Therefore it must be the construction that varies

Well for a start you'd be less likely to be out LBW as the ball would have more chance of hitting you above the knee roll.

Don't really have a cricket shop around me so would like to take advantage if the sales.

Might just order some puma's off sport direct in men's size

Hi mate

I'm 5-6/7 and small men's are fine, however my knee to instep is 42. I'd say small men's, Thayer good for you.

Thanks for the help mate.

I managed to pick up the Ayrtek Elite pads and gloves for a bargain price. I fall under the category of YOUTH!!

Youth will do fine but if you are facing really quick bowlers and likely to get hit, I would suggest going for a fuller size.

I have tried all three main sizes and find youth ones the most comfortable to bat and run in but do tend to get hit on leg every now and then.

I have youth size Arytek Elite pads and can't fault the protection. Another big plus of the elite pads is the length of the straps as often youth pads have rather short straps not designed for men's calves.

Straps were the reason I sent Small Mens back and got Youth!!!

Tom at Ayrtek, ensured me that the gloves and pads for both youths and mens are made to the same credentials. Only difference is size.

Which is absolutely what I was looking for.

I know have the Orange Nike Century II shoes and the Green Elite gloves, bloomin' rainbow I am, lol
