Okay, my worst day on a cricket field. I'll set the scene... A beautiful sunny afternoon in the west of Hertfordshire, I'm at the crease 40 not out, my team 9 down and we're chasing a further 20 odd runs to win and I'm batting with our walking wicket number 11 (who can't resist a big ol' swipe at anything pitched in his half).

The opposition captain (an off spinner) is bowling. Earlier in the over I'd flicked a leg stump half volley over square leg for 6 and was fortunate to see another similar delivery heading my way.

I realize very late on in the ball's trajectory that it is not quite as full as i first thought and in attempt to get a bigger stride in to reach the pitch of it I hyper-extent my back leg to the point where my knee dislocates! ... My leg collapses and the momentum of my attempted shot spins my body 180 degrees. In the final stages of my fall my knee crunches back into place and before I know it the sight of the stumps flashes before my eyes and my head is suddenly halted in it's tracks... I get a face full of Ash!

With the stumps broken, the opposition are awaken to the fact it's all over and in their exuberant celebrations, they take 2 or 3 minutes before they realize I'm writhing on the ground in agony with my mouth pissing blood.

I'm eventually carried off the field and with my knee strapped up I head back to the club and drink Guinness until the pain stops and I can laugh at the lads telling me with my swollen top lip I look like Leslie Ash.

I took a screamer at gully - forgetting a no ball had been called - celebrated wildly as we would have won the league! Then I point the batsman to the pavilion and when he Doesn't walk I nearly start shouting at the umpire.. It then takes the captain and the slip corded to explain a no ball had been called...

When I'd just started keeping, and had become team keeper. The previous keeper is bowling, I'm stood up and te batsman pops in about 2 steps to my right and 10/12 feet in the air. I'm underneath it like a flash, hands too close together it hurts my webbing and falls at my feet. I still get jittery with high ones now!

I had a bit of a shocker in the field today. Firstly the batsmen hits a drive through cover chasing after it I make the ground and be d to pick the ball up very close to the rope with my momentum going to carry it over so I think quickly and in T20 style try throwing the ball in the air to catch again and stay in bounds. All I manage to do is throw is 10 yards further foward

Then fielding at deep long on a run in screen my name to take the catch to realise half way in I have judges it so wrong and it sales over my head for a one bounce four :-[. Lucky enough he was bowled next ball.

Two instances from memory stick out.

When I was 14 I played for Purley U16's in the John Charcoal Final at Guildford.  We were playing Send.  I dropped Adam Holliaoke on the boundry.  We won the game no thanks to me though !

This is a team worst moment. A few years ago playing against Camberley in a 1XI Saturday League match our keeper wasn't available and the 2nd team keeper wasn't available, so one of the boys stepped in.  We posted 216.  After 7 dropped catches (4 from the lad who kept) and the opening bowler having a breakdown in the middle of the pitch after the fourth or fifth dropped catch, they proceeded to chase it for nought.  Not a great day !

In the return game, they posted 273 for 5.  We chased 6 down.  Beautiful !

SOmethings gone a bit wrong with the bowling figures etc but the scores are right:

We play a short 25 overs league games here. It was one of my unlucky day, bowled pretty economic 5 overs with 2 wickets, but the real story was my team dropped 11 normal catches off my bowling that day. 6-7 were easy catches and 2 slip catches which weren't that tough (spilled from chest with 2 hands on the ball) I being an off-spinner. After 4 dropped catches I started counting them aloud and even my opponents joined me lightheartedly. When my Vice captain dropped a catch on 2’nd last ball of my spell Captain jokingly said “remember in nets prior to the season I told you, you need to take wickets with your own talent without depending on the team, this is what I meant”. Ended up losing that day, one of the worst days on field for me and for team as well.
