Bat Design Help
« on: October 09, 2013, 02:04:10 PM »

I have been looking to design a bat to be made and I find it very difficult to decide on what I want. I am also aware that everyone has their own preferences so if I do get any responses to this thread it will be quite varied.

Now I have a Aldred bat being made for me and the requested shape was a low long middle, that is all. The second bat I am looking for something else. Maybe something with a mid middle and a spined toe. Just wanted peoples opinions on how this will affect the pick up, if it is a good shape, what changes I should go for etc.

Below is the shape that I like, however would like the sweetspot to be extended lower with a toed spine.

Let me know your thoughts, any help would be appreciated.

Why are you looking for a mid middled toed spines profile? Like the shape? Used something similar before?  Just trying to understand your reasons first.

I think spine all the way to the toe would just add unnecessary weight but that depends on how thick the toe is anyway.
I think Krs has B.A.D,  Bat Acquisition Disorder. ;)

Really just like the idea of a toe spine really, I also don't think I have seen one either. My understanding would it make the sweet spot extremely HUGE.

The idea is to have the have the sweet spot start from the the mid area and and extend it all the way to the toe.

Do you have reservation on this shape, if so please let me know. The last thing i would like is a bat that is just pants.

this will only be my second bat...I don't think I have reached that stage yet lol

KRS - your current 'bat tailor' has made some with the spine running to the toe...

I did see, but I am looking to get ideas first and would like to use a forum opinion really. Also would like to look at other batmakers, really for the purpose for a bat collection :)

Maybe work on something similar to this, except with the spine running down to the toe? Could work if you concave a little bit at the toe, so all you're really doing is lengthening the spine down to the toe and narrowing the 'middle' at the toe. Maybe also ask for the spine to run from toe to splice, as this will help with pick up. :)

Thanks guys

I had another long chat with Paul (some random guy at Aldred Cricket) and explain the science behind bat making shapes and stuff. Very informative.

Will go back to the drawing board.
