Is it oil OR beeswax?
« on: August 10, 2013, 07:11:49 AM »

Have just sanded down my bats -normally I chuck a couple of thin layers on but have bought a lump of beeswax. Is it one or the other? How do I actually put the beeswax on? Just rub it on then buff?

Melt the beeswax and then add an equal amount of linseed oil to it. If you then leave it to cool in some sort of pot , you should get a nice wax!

ok - i've chucked a couple of thin layers of linseed onto the bats and have purchased a bar of beeswax from Bunnings....how do i go about getting the beeswax on the bat?!?!  Seems like a silly question really?  Do i use it like shoe polish and get a cloth, rub some on the cloth and then rub onto the bat then buff off????

[i feel a bit of an idiot asking!!!]

Sam said it in one! Combine the two, it's much nicer than just oil.

Just blended up some bat wax, used approximately 10 grams wax and filled the rest of a 2 ounce tobacco tin with oil.
Nice soft consistency that melts under your finger tips.

I use an electric hotplate/foodwarmer. Chuck it all in the tin, stir occasionally till all the wax has melted. :)

A bean tin & a blowtorch also work though!

Be careful not to let it get too hot with the blowtorch ;)

It melted down in seconds, then boiled and started spitting...
It was perfectly safe, honest...
