Initial Thoughts on the New GM Bats from my trip to Allrounder
« on: November 10, 2013, 08:59:11 PM »

I was up in Leeds late last week and popped into allrounder. They had all the GM Bats in and I spent a bit of time playing around with the Purist and Six6.

Purist - pickup seems good, handle thicker than last years bats. The big swell and lack of concaving makes the bat feel very substantial in the hands. Couldn't quiet work out the middle position but at best it's mid-middle. I wouldn't fancy hitting the ball too high up.

Six6 - Minimal spine and concaving. Mainly edge. Again GM have thickened the handle a little. I thought the middle was fairly high up the blade but it also thought it should pickup up a bit better than it did. The Icon with a similar middle position picks up much better.

The Icon/Six6 graphics do look better in the flesh. The stock in allrounder was pretty minimal, a 404/606/808/Original/LE in each model on the shelf. Not much choice and most of the bats looked pretty ropey looks wise. Some of the Originals wouldn't pass for G2 imho, the lower models looked even worse. I didn't have access to any scales but I doubt many bats were below 2'10 either. They all looked pretty big and felt like it.

No pics I'm afraid!

Personally I have become a big fan of GM over the past 12 months with 5 now in my collection Epic,Icon x2,Argon,Purist I also have a 6six on hold at Vitas.

The purist I got from VKS is lovely, extremely well balanced and middle is quite long but does have the main bulge on a mid/low position, handle on this is not as thick as the others.

I went with GM gear when I replaced all my stuff last year, and wouldn't go for anything else if I'm honest. I have a Purist II from a couple of years back which is a properly meaty bat, with a solid pickup, and I added a 505 Epic before the season started which has become my main match bat. I'm aiming to pick up another bat before the new season starts, and can't see myself going with anything but GM again.
