The off the shelf ones come with toe guards, but not scuff sheets.

I'd have probably sent it back tbh as it's meant to be custom, you've paid custom money and have listed minimum requirements of what you want and grays couldn't match that! May just be a simple case of removing the scuff and toe guard but that's not the point....it's still not what you asked for!

I don't see how a bat can be deemed custom if it isn't a different shape to a stock shape.

You didn't specify you wanted any profile changes from the normal shape so I'm not surprised you received an off the shelf bat.

the dynadrive customs that people brought on here we're much better looking in size and willow structure
Just disappointed that this normal bat was made from wood picked from gn's best willow

For that money I'd expect similar willow as is available to the pro's.

Guys, there seems to be rather a lot of speculation relating to this bat. I am aware that a number of the custom made bats have been issued with a variety of scuff sheets and toeguards this year (and I am certain that they are customs due to blade length). The GN customs have always been off the shelf shapes made from better quality willow. The guy's asked for 8 to 12 grains and got it.

If you can prove that this bat isn't made from better quality willow and isn't custom made then please demonstrate it, otherwise, stop defaming both Vitas and GM.

You might not realise, but people who really do care read this forum and it does neither you nor us any good to chuck about baseless accusations.

Just had Rob (fromthehip) into the shop today. I agreed the bat feels hard higher up the blade from the middle, but it has not had any knocking in etc yet. It reminded me a little of my Laver Reserve which was painful to use to begin with (Robs isn't that bad thankfully) but feels fantastic now.

I am going to spend the next few weeks firstly knocking it in and then giving it a good go on the bowling machine to get it going like i did with my Laver. If Rob still isn't happy we will take it from there.

To clarify things a little further, i doubt many off the shelf bats look like this when you roll the grip down.

Our custom mades this year have a mishmash mix of toe guards/scuff sheets. I apologise for this, but it is somehwat beyond my control. I suspect it may be a case of more than one batmaker at Robertsbridge making the bats, and obviously they all have their own way of doing things. The shoulder stamps vary a bit which further suggests numerous batmakers.

They have also all come with various grips, mostly either chevron or old style snake grips. One came with a new zone grip but in a grey/black colour which is not on any bat in the 2014 range. I was told when we visited Robertsbridge that i wouldn't be able to get any spare grips for a while as they were not in yet. I guess the batmakers are suffering the same problem. Luckily Rob wanted a white chevron, to match Compton.

Rob asked for 2013 E41 stickers as he likes the look of Nick Comptons bat. He has got those stickers, yet there is a 2014 new style toe guard. There were no E41's left at GN when we visited anyway, but if this was just off the shelf i doubt they would go to the trouble of fitting a new style toe guard.

How can it be a GN E41 if it is a different shape.

If it is a different shape, the it is a nondescript GN bat, with E41 stickers.

Good customer service that Jake and I think the customer service you are offering to the lad is great....and you wont find many people willing to go to the extent to get you happy as Vitas do, and thats speaking from past experience! However I think the problem is with GN its just the comment I was making was based on the Dynadrive LE's made from the willow that was posted last year, for me these were beautiful and set the boundary for the custom made bats GN were producing for £325. However with the shortage of willow maybe this is all they can produce for their players at the minute!!! - Just I would have expected them grains to be ruler straight if I was paying £325 for a custom GN

just to confirm I've never had a problem with jake or robin or there customer service...if I did I wouldn't go there.simple
and yes I went to vitas today to clear up my issues with my new bat and I am satisfied that its not a shelf picked e41 and is a custom e41
can't deny I was expecting something a little bigger and with slightly better grains but after hitting a few balls I am sure that in time this will be a quality bat.
certainly didn't expect a custom to be this hard pressed so with that in mind I chose to leave it there and let jake knock it in
so when I get my impatient hands on it again I can then give a more in depth opinion
thanks
