Oval Handle simulation
« on: October 26, 2013, 10:07:53 AM »

Of my 4 bats, 1 has an oval handle and is by far the most confortable to play with, however, the other bats are a better quality willow. Apart from rehandling, would there be any way to get the feel of a oval handle? Perhaps a oval handle grip? If they make them?

Electrical tape or potentially a half grip underneath a whole one. Those are the two options I use, although the tape is slightly more precise.

Medical tape works well as it's fairly thick.
Cutting strips of grip and taping them on also works

Remove binding and shape with a file.

Once you've got your desired shape add thick surgical tape very tightly all around

Not a complicated job.

Taping a thick (like spiral) piece of grip to the top of the handle works really well and has got to be the simplist way to gain the feel.

Any one tried some ABS plastic sheet. Can be heated to shape around the handle then cut/filed to the required shape.

Try putting plasters on the twine

I've tried every method possible as I'm very particular about the handle on my bat to the nearest mm for the top and bottom hand circumference

The best way is with a £2 roll of plaster that comes in a roll at boots and a roll of fabric tape

Apply the plaster tape in strips to the top and bottom. Ie 3 pieces then add 2 pieces over that and then 1 on that each time applying to the centre.

Do on the top and the bottom of the handle

Then get the fabric tape and wrap it around as tightly as possible, this will press down the plaster tape and even out any ridges. It will also reduce the thickness of the handle close to its original circumference

Using grips gives an extreme ridge which can feel weird

Same as pro cricket, several strips of zinc oxide on the front and the back of the handle.  Now feels pretty much like an oval handle.
