I've cut the top 3/4 inch off the top of all my bats, doen't affect the balance at all. The piece of cane that comes off is incredibly light.

If for some reason you do feel it is affected, just run some medical tape round the top of the handle to bulk it out again. Plus makes it look correct uder the grip!

Interesting, and brave! Did you just hacksaw it off? Is the finish neat, did it need gluing treating in anyway?

Pretty much! Was very careful to make sure the cut was straight, cut it off and sanded the end off a tad.
Nope, haven't treated any of them, cut it off just above the end of the binding, so there is still a little ridge, which saves the need to mess with the binding. I only did it because, as stated, if you hold the bat quite low, it does get in the way very occasionally.

Would you mind posting a picture?

I assumed a Harrow bat had a slightly smaller blade and shorter handle to maintain balance but dont know that for a fact.
Correct! They're also narrower if that bothers you.

I have cut handle off a cheap Kookaburra and an MSR , both of which were round handle and made me grip lower down the handle. I did it after consulting a well known pod shaver. I kept the cut off bit to weigh ( ~ 0.2 oz ) just in case the balance did not feel right and replace with lead tape. If you bulk up the bottom handle with an extra half grip , you might end up gripping higher than usual reducing the necessity to cut off the handle. Using a mitre saw/ helps to keep the cut level and clean.
