Grey Nicolls Beast?? Any info?
« on: January 27, 2014, 04:25:35 PM »

Hey I was wondering if anyone has used or owned one of these bats before? Cant find any info on the net about these bats. I'm looking at getting a cheaper long blade bat to try as my coach has recommended that I give one a go to help counter me falling over the ball and getting out LBW which I've almost exclusively done this year   >:(  I just want to see if a long blade works for me before ordering a bat off one of the sponsors here. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gray-Nicholls-cricket-bat-Beast-long-blade-/121261255403  It doesn't look the best but it should do the job.

Not got any info on the bat, it looks absolutely massive though! I'd be interested in hearing why your coach thinks that a longer blade would help with your falling over.

Yeah it does look pretty big. He was commenting because of my height (6'3) that I'm hunching over too much with the smaller bat and that a long blade might help me to stand a bit taller.

Ah ok. That makes complete sense. Well, for about AUD60 you can't really go wrong!

I'm hoping there is not too much of a bidding frenzy at the end so I can snap it up real cheap as I've already spent a bit of cash this week hahaha

Looks almost identical shape to the UK Phoenix from a few years ago, with the spine like that

The Beast was a Phoenix sub model in Australian, only in heavier weights (2lb 12+). Could be up to 10 years old.

Thanks for the info Tom. Its helped me to gather a bit more knowledge now which is great. It really does look like a beast haha up around 3lbs. Might have to start doing some weights  :-[ It must have sat in a cupboard for the last 10 years by the looks. Barely a mark on it.

Its funny in the description I found it talks about the bat having 30mm edges as an extreme thing. Thats how much bats have changed just in the last 10 or so years haha
