Grand Final Winners
« on: March 23, 2014, 07:50:33 PM »

Anyone else from OZ on here make the finals this year?

I am just healthy enough to post this....been a big weekend....

We won the grand final on Saturday, set the opposition 209 to win and rolled them for 66, one sided but a win nonetheless!!!!  My second premiership win as skipper so couldn't be happier! I'm also dual registered and the team I play for in Rockhampton is in the grand final this coming weekend, extremely shattered as I have to work would of been awesome to potentially win two comps in two weeks!

Well done mate, great effort! Made the semi finals, and unforunately we choked. 2nd year in a row in the semis for my club. Finished with 30+ wickets and 300 runs though so that isn't too bad on a personal note I guess. How did you go this season, big runs?

Ahhh unlucky mate that sucks! There is always next year to go that one step further. That's a very solid year for yourself! Well done. I had a reasonably quiet year, this comp only plays 40 over a side one dayers and I've taken a slight step backwards to give some young up and coming lads a go so opportunities on a personal level weren't as high as usual, but Im at a point where I'd rather see the young fellas develop and nurture them along the way. I still bagged 20ish wickets and 300 runs from 11 games so not too shabby.

One thing I will say is I have been trying to teach the lads the art of 'boring cricket' and it has paid of this year. Bowlers sticking to a plan and bowling great areas. My logic with one day cricket is you don't need to take wickets to win the game. If you can restrict the run rate, the wickets will come. Then with the batting it's all about the partnerships, turning the strike over and waiting on the bad ball to score from without taking risks until later in the innings depending on how the total is looking/wickets in hand. This year everyone stuck to that plan and no one really came close which was extremely satisfying.

Goodluck to everyone else for what's left of the season :)

Still a handy little return for the year there! I agree on bowling to plans and batting patiently. In our two day games we struggled to bat out our 80 overs which if he managed to we're always looked at 200+ which with runs on the board always puts you in a good position in the comp I played. Bowling wise we just looked to stick to our plan of bowling one side of the wicket and building dots on the batsmen. Not many are happy to sit around all day and soak up overs and look to play a scoring shot and get caught out. 1-0 to the fielding side when it works! Having no spinner and the workload between 4 seamers, always fun on those 30°c + days!

Lost in the first final. Made it into the finals by 0.02% which was handy though.
