A bit of guidance to fixing these please.
« on: April 21, 2014, 10:31:51 AM »

I have got these two bats from club mates which needs fixing, however I am stuck a bit.

A) A GM purist originally given to get the donor wood out of it for the Newbery GT's toe fix.

I cannot bring myself to chop the purist but not sure about fixing it either. The crack as seen from the image runs parallel. Can this be fixed and dowelled please ?.

B) How do I square off the broken edge to make the donor wood fit flush please ?.

The top one can't really be repaired,  only thing you could do is glue and dowel but seems pointless.

Second one would be good if you had the missing piece otherwise you'd have to use an offcut thats been pressed previously like off another bat or an off cut from a pressed blade.

You'd need mm perfect cutting the old bat and the donor piece too. So I'd use a straight edge and a protractor to keep them symmetrical,  not only that you need to take care and make sure the cut is square top and bottom, which is tricky using a hand saw, you'd be better off using a bandsaw if you had access to one.

I did one a while back, this was the results. A bit of messing about but it's still holding strong.
