Question about Balls
« on: May 26, 2014, 03:30:06 AM »

Question for the forum and also the Retailers,
At the nets i train at we have a longer lane for proper bowling not just using the bola machine, my question is which brand or recommend ball is ideal for indoor use but also is along the same lines as what we use come saturday and sunday. Or does it not matter at all.

From this title I thought this was a thread for Fattus to talk about his plums!  :D

Serious response now:
We used some kookaburra ones for indoor nets, not exactly top end but they weren't bat breakers, lasted reasonably well and did the job for nets.
I also got a sleeve of 6 Fernley ones in the ECB shop sale, they're a bit softer than the kook ones but again did the job. May not hold their shape for as long but they're going okay at the moment. I think they were reduced to £25 for 6 and they're perfect for club nets.
As you said the dukes are £16 a ball which is a bit steep considerin they tend to go for a walk after the nets!

We have recently switched from Dukes to Tiflex Mangas. I was told by Jake from Vitas is they have something in them for everyone and I have to agree. More than good enough to be a match ball, nevermind a net ball and they cost a lot less than the 16 pounds you were looking for.

Drop Jake a line, I'm sure he can help you out.

I bought a kookaburra practice ball and it held together for 5 years, even though the seam had gone, after about 2. And this was from using it for throw downs with my dad, on a asphalt run up (waverly nets in sydney) then rolling it back to him after every ball. During this time, I got a GN practice ball, and it lasted barley 5 practice sessions with my dad. Thank god I don't go to those every nets anymore, worst nets because there are holes at the back with an asphalt run up and the ball sometimes goes onto the road because there is a hill behind it. The bounce is terribly low as well. Anyway, I'm just suggesting that if you buy a good quality ball, it can last you for a while, compared to a cheaper one.

we have a bag of old match balls in various conditions which seem to do fine for nets. There is something for everyone. I think they are £16Kook or £10+ readers ones. Never bought my own ball for nets.
