New bat! Choices, choices...
« on: January 06, 2016, 01:38:25 PM »

Hi all,

I have been lurking for a while and although I have emailed B3, thought I would finally ask for some advice from the forum members while waiting for a response.

I haven't played for some time and thoroughly enjoyed my first season back last year. I am a bowler but have very much enjoyed what little time I have spent at the crease.

I need a new bat as I broke the toe on my existing one, and although I unfortunately missed the 50% deal, am still looking to buy from B3. All it means is that I am pretty much stuck at a 1 Stripe.

I haven't played for a while or tried that many bats, so my knowledge of what I like is limited. Coming from playing a lot of hockey, I have quick hands and a good slog! I struggle to play with a straight bat tbh, but have a good pull and sweep. If I can visit B3 to try some out for feel, I will certainly do so as due to not so good technique but quick hands, I think a lighter bat/easier to manoeuvre might be better. BUT, I generally look to score quickly so need some meat behind the shots.

Was thinking along lines of 4, 10, 19? Or I saw Chads Mull 1 Stripe was about 2.10/11 and as long as the pickup feels good could be an option?

Any advise or ideas much appreciated, almost too many options as I don't have an obvious bat preference at this point!

Thanks

Well a Mull would certainly meet the "meaty" criteria, serious chunk of a bat those!

Chad's Mull must have used a light cleft as the standard size for the 2015 Mull is 2lb 13-14oz

Based on what you have written my suggestion would a bat that is not light wieght but picks up light ask b3 what clefts they have and dont go to heavy keep in mind run scoring is also about timing.

Pleased to hear you're looking for a B3....Good Choice!!

Definitely pop into the factory / showroom and have a look at what we have in stock but bring your current bat down too....always good to see where you're hitting the ball as there's no point in picking a bat with all the meat higher up when you're hitting the ball lower.

Thanks!

The Doc replied and suggested Shape 4, doesn't look like too many have this on the thread images but happy to take his suggestion.

I am hoping to visit and have a good look, but if not, will give him a call and discuss.

As per suggestion, I took a look at the two bats I used last season and the cherries are definitely mid to low, nothing high up near the stickers.

So.....

Stopped in on Friday. Great to have a chat with Streaky and check out all the options.

I was gutted to miss out on the deal. However! It means I wasn't restricted cleft wise and have ordered a 2 stripe TKC at 2lb 10 or less.

All I have to do now is stop being a tart and decide which colours
