Hi all

Following a disxcussion with fellow Yorkie Manormanic about putting your body on the line for the sake of the team, it cam to me, what would Health and Safety suggest?

As the ECB are the employer, and the players the employee, how would it sit within the game?

Obviously, you can never truly have a 100% safe working environment. And in cricket, where one person hurls a hard object up to 90mph toward another, there will be injuries.

How does the employer ask the individual to "wear one", without conflicting Health and Safety?  Is there specific criteria within sport which excludes them?

Any senior coaches or cricket admin staff who have any idea?

Oh jesus. Can of worms here! I would suggest that potentially taking one would be covered by the ECB's liability insurance and that occasionally having to wear the odd shot falls within the job description.

I would suggest that you would have a discussion that went something along the lines of:

"You should do whatever it takes to ensure that the best result in the circumstances is achieved"

In which case you are not instructing someone to do anything and also making it clear what you expect them to do without creating liability.
