I find that I can manage to bat in the nets but not out on the wicket, anyone feel like this. How do I go about changing this?!

Is that net wicket batting as well.

Probably more relaxed in batting in nets than in a game.

Ball doesn't do as much and generally quicker in nets.

Watch ball more. Wait for right delivery to score off.

There are a few guys at my club that look a million dollars in the nets but as soon as there are 11 guys trying to get them out they turn to rat poo.

Just try to spend sometime on the wicket..watch the ball closely...soon enough you will get your touch back...bat ugly if need be but give yourself sometime...all the best...

Thanks, how do you suggest I have some wicket time? Getting one of my mates out on the track to bowl with me?

I think he means just 'bat time' when you're in a match i.e. don't worry if you're not scoring runs initially - the longer you bat for the easier it should get so you can catch up with the scoring rate later on.

Because you can bat in the nets it's probably just a mental thing when you at the crease just clear your mind make your shot selection then see ball hit ball also as a batsman you  need to be able to play the foreward defensive shot correctly as the longer  you stay at the crease  your confidence will improve your feet will start to move and you will score runs.

Grind an innings out, even if it is ugly, I had one last season and one this season, not many runs but spending time in the middle even with blocking balls helped me. It's good if the other guy gets runs a bit quicker so it doesn't effect the team. I was lucky to have someone helping me out at the other end.

Most people can look good in the nets. Freedom of shots, no fear of getting out and more pace and true bounce. Only judge people on middle form.

Some great advice coming in here. It's my shot selection out on the pitch that lets me down, always get caught in two minds and get caught/bowled. My poorest shot is the forward defensive. As I've never been taught to bat I find batting very difficult. Am to embarrassed to ask anyone at the club to help just incase they say no.

Never be embarrassed or afraid to ask for help. It's more of a reflection on the person you ask if they say no rather than you looking bad. I'm sure there are plenty of people at your club who would be privileged and chuffed to be asked to help out.

Foreward defensive:Take your batswing and step with your front leg towards where the ball pitches and from a strong base bend  your front knee bring your bat down using your top hand to control the direction of the bat slow the bat down as you make contact with the ball and keep your top elbow high. Make contact with the ball under your eyes with the full face of the bat  with your bat against your pad play the shot with soft hands so that the ball drops by your feet brush your top hand against your front pad to ensure their is no gap between bat and pad.
