Working on bowling.
« on: July 08, 2014, 02:05:28 PM »

Just a few questions for all you bowlers out there.

What is the best way to work on getting your line and length the same ball after ball?

How to set a run up that works for you, I've been struggling with my run up this season, either over stepping ( a little ) but mainly under stepping.

Variations in your bowling, I can get the ball to swing but don't know how I get it to do that or what would be the most effective thing to do with it.

If anyone could help me with these few questions I would be very greatful.

On these two, practice. For the first, put down a marker where the length needs to be and bowl thousands of balls at that marker.

On your run up, don't worry about understepping - it means the ball is legal and doesn't matter.

Worry about variations when you are doing these first two properly, repeatedly.

Don't bother bowling mate, it's a thankless task!

Line and length - go to the nets and cone off your area (line and length) and just bowl into it with no batsman.

If you're under stepping leave it, better to be well behind the line than give away no balls.

Variations - don't worry about that midway through a season, do what's natural now and work on variations in winter nets.

Just my 2 pennies worth  :)

Two separate answers from two different bowlers. Both the same. I think you know what you need to do.

Go to work...

Thanks both and Cameron, I have to be able to do something other than field as I can't bat to save my life but I am trying to work on it. Will get round to taking your advice in the week.

You could also try this mark the area as previously stated in front of the wicket where you want to land the ball then with your front arm in the air pointing towards the keeper look at the area you have marked keep your head and eyes fixed on the target area then start from 2 paces and bowl into the marked area as you become more consistent landing the ball in the marked area from 2 paces go to 4 paces then when you are consistent at 4 paces  go to 6 paces etc till you reach your normal run up.
