Mallet fracture
« on: May 03, 2014, 10:04:48 PM »

Fearing my season could be over before it started. Took one on the end of my middle finger and have got a mallet fracture.
Reading up on it seems 6-8wks in a splint with the possibility of surgery if particularly bad. I've got an appointment Tuesday to assess and discuss treatment but wondered if any else has experience of his type of fracture?
Quite depressed having looked forward to the season for so long but at least the lads won in my absence

Good luck for a speedy recovery. It would suck to miss the season for anyone.

To me, it doesn't matter how good you are. Sport is all about playing and competing. Whatever you do in cricket and in sport, enjoy it, be positive and try to win.

nothing to do, but try and keep fit, if its on the bottom hand you might be able to have throw downs and work the top hand, but yeah, basically hard lines.

maybe buy some better gloves - what ones did you have on?

Two of us on the sideline. Gutted for you.

I sat and watched yesterday. While we firet collapsed. Then recovered.
Then there opener sailed to 50 and it looked all to ease for them but 5 quick wickets and some great fielding meant we won by 8runs with 7balls left!

It seems harder on the sidelines when you cant influence the game than it does being part of it.

Thanks for replies guys. It's top hand for me so no joy there Ross. I hurt a finger on the other hand last year in the same Blenheim gloves so thinking when I do make it back I'll switch to a new pair though it may just have been bad luck.

Smilley well done on the win. Our skipper has had shoulder surgery so it looks like the pair of us have a good spell of nervous watching ahead!

Good news, it's not a mallet fracture and I don't need surgery! Bad news, its a nasty little break and looks like 6 weeks in a splint followed by physio  :(
Anyone got any good ideas for keeping the no cricket blues at bay for such a big chunk of the season?

PS the irony of my Aero P1 keeping inners turning up from Aswani this morning was not lost on me!

Great news, on Saturdays do some small jobs on the ground maybe(painting, weeding etc), might feel like your contributing to the club and your doing something useful, and you can watch the cricket, and you'll be on your feet for roughly the same time.

Yeah could just be unluckly with the gloves, or you might have glass fingers. Either way make sure you get some really good ones next time, just to be on the safe side!

My suggestion is to watch as much cricket on tv as you can and keep supporting your club by boosting the profits at the bar
