That's zinc oxide tape.
Would be useless for repairing the face in my opinion, but is useful for handles, either instead of or for additional binding.

The only reason why you would use it is because it's all you have at the time and need to repair a bat.

May be convenience, I.e broke on the day warming up and no one has fibre tape.

May be tightness, too tight to buy fibre tape.

May not be able to afford fibre tape.

If it was better than fibre tape, then cricket shops would stop selling fibre tape, and sell this instead.
Just like electricians tape, people use it on bats, but it's isn't right.

As a registered nurse, medical tape has its uses, namely sticking bandages and gauze to skin.  It is not very robust however, tears very easily.

For bats...  May as well micturate in the wind.

I have used this one for toe repairs on bats despite having fibre tape handy by choice. I find when a repair needs twine/rope I would rather use one or two layers of sports tape (cloth based) and then take a brush and spread PVA glue on top all around. It makes a very nice protective cover on the damage (which should be repaired/glued first anyways) and I don't have to worry about getting the twine tight enough or what type of knot i need etc.

Fibre tape is horrible to take off, especially if it have been on for some time, and also does not have the same hold as sports tape in my opinion.

Is it not cotton tape you're thinking of?

Medical tape is too stretchy to repair any cracks or anything. Just get a bit of it and stretch between your hands, then get some bat tape and try to stretch it!

100% agree with tush, rigid strapping tape has absolutely no stretch in it at all and it is thicker than fibre tape, the only problem is that it holds a lot of moisture
