I was after a cheap < £50 net bat and picked one up from MSR on eBay.
After spending about 30 mins going through the catalogue, I found a stickerless butterfly, in a reasonable shape with reasonable grains/face. It was marked as a "2lb 10oz - PERFORMANCE ENGLISH WILLOW CRICKET BAT" and:
English willow Cricket bat - Exceptional Performance
Superb Rebound and Performance
Massive Profile huge edges
9 Grain
Powerful - Great value for money
Great rebound
Balanced pick-up
Somebody will pick up a top performing bat for next to nothing
The bat arrived quick enough, weighed out of the box and came in at 2'10.6 so pretty much spot on. First impressions:
The grip was the worst thing in the world, ever... ever - quickly came off and the binding underneath was pretty grubby.
As you'd expect for £45, there are a few scratches and dings but apart from that (and the grip), the finish is pretty good
The ping off the bat is pretty good but it's quite toe heavy so added a grip to balance it out. Even though I prefer thinner handles it isn't too bad. Knocking in is taking a while with the butterfly marks being pretty dead to start with but are coming round. Apart from that, I think this will do the job. The only issue now is that with the second grip, the shoe goo on the toe and the scuff sheet (which I'm not sure why I applied seeing as it's a net bat), it's now teetering around the 10'12.5 mark. I might need to revisit that to reduce the weight closer to my match bat.
Some pics.
