My SS Super Power - under the gloss paint!
« on: September 20, 2014, 02:14:59 PM »

Afternoon all

I posted pictures of my new SS bats the other day, as as you will have seen one of them was painted.

I had a few hours free this morning and when I started knocking some of the paint came off, and reveled a sheet with the paint on. My impulsive nature took over and I started peeling.

As education has been mentioned on here a fair bit recently, I went to a state comprehensive, so while not as wordy as some on here, I am able to do things with a knife some can only dream of!  ;)

Anyway, some careful cutting round the stickers later and a bit more peeling this was the result.

So after this I did a bit of sanding to remove the residue from the glue.

Once all the residue was off I gave it a fine sanding, then re-applied stickers (and stamps).
These where taken just after I'd applied oil so it's now sat in the garage waiting for the oil to soak in.

All in all I'm pleased with the result, and with only 2 small knots I'm not sure why the cover was necessary. Some people said they wouldn't have gone for this bat because it had the coating on, that's that problem resolved!  ;)

Excellent work! I really enjoyed that!

Did the covering include the face of the bat? Did you take any photos of it? - I'm very curious

Hi mate

Covering was only the edges and back of the bat.
No pictures of it on its own but here's a few from the day the bat arrived.
You can see what was going on with the covering in these

Ping is decent off the mallet and when tapping up on both mate.

There were light dents in the face from knocking an old ball in the air so deffinitley in need of some knocking in over the winter, which will only improve the response. Think they're both going to go well once match ready :)

I'm surprised too mate, 2 little knots, neither in an are the ball constantly hits (well, one is on the edge so we'll see...)
Not that I'm complaining, coated willow is cheaper than non coated willow so I got a decent bat at a reduced price  ;)

Nice cleanup buddy. Never new the paint was on a sheet.

It's like a layer of fabric on the willow that they pain over, not too dissimilar to the stuff they put on a handle before the binding goes on.

Here's a picture of the coating (some had chipped off so you can see the fabric)

And here is one of the back, I want to say it's cotton but I'm really not sure!
