Pre Match Training

How much pre-game preparation do you do on the day of the match? Do you run four miles before the match? Lift weights or workout? Do a crossfit "routine"?

What do you do? What do professionals do?

Personally do about an hour in the nets pre game, then the team warm up stuff for 20 mins. Tbh, it all probably makes little effect but mentally it helps.  Do whatever feels comfy for you.

Mine ranges from the team warm (if there is one) to nothing.
Sunday's it can be a pint before the game as a warm up!

Rew throw downs and catching practice.

Depends on how long it takes to get all the side screens and stuff out if at home. And how lost we get at away games.

Team warm up maybe a bit of touch rugby, then a few throws and catches/ground fielding. The bowlers have a bowl and bats a have a few throwdowns or net. TBH it's just about getting loose and your eye in, any hard training should be done in the week.

I usually turn up, have a smoke. Get the jobs done whilst having another smoke. Have a smoke then get changed. Have another smoke whilst trying to catch the ball one handed as we are throwing it around before the start of the game, then go out to field and count down the minutes until drinks when I can go grab another smoke.

Haha yeah. I'm attempting Stoptober again this year. I managed the whole month but started smoking again in November. Doubt I'll ever get into the habit of a proper pre match warm up as I used to in my younger days with my old side but hopefully my lungs and my wallet will appreciate it next year if I manage to quit for good.

I agree that all the hard training should be done in the week prior to the game. Lately, I have been hearing that some people are lifting weights and running four miles prior to the game. Other than a psychological comfort of preparation (or over preparation) or a strenuous pre-game warm up I just don't see how this routine could be beneficial.

I don't run 4 miles in a year so doing it before a match is clearly overkill!

I haven't had one for 6 months now mate, first month-six weeks then it's sorted.
Bit of self believe goes a long way too, I never thought I'd be able to get outa the habbit

Club side for a 2pm start
8.30 - get in from Friday night out
8.45 onwards - sleep
13.15 - 13.30 - wake up, shower, go to shop near ground
13.35 - purchase sandwich (or other savoury food) and lucozade from convenience store
13.45 - 13.55 - eat & drink, find out if batting or fielding.
13.55 - if fielding first get whites on, if batting first have a cheeky snooze in the changing rooms

Thing I struggle with is trying to work out if I actually want to quit or not. Obviously the money and health benefits would be great, but I actually do enjoy a good smoke. Still, haven't had one since September yet!

I'm one of the more fitness conscious players in my team so I will try to do a bit extra warm up as the rest of the lads are happy with just a bit of fielding practice or throwdowns. If I have time then I will jog around the field to get the heart rate up and then do stretches for as long as necessary and then bowl a couple of overs in nets. Anything more sounds dangerously close to doing a workout and will mean I'm knackered towards the end of the innings. 4 mile run? **** that.
