Bowling machine and Other Equipment from Vitas
« on: May 23, 2015, 04:05:46 AM »

Just a quick post about my most recent purchase from Vitas Cricket.

So the uni cricket club president was trying to find someone to manufacture caps for our tour this year, and stumbled across Galaxy, a sportswear supplier. He was in talks with them regarding a sample, and asked me if I knew of any manufacturers which I could contact too. Naturally, I just went to someone I was familiar with dealing with first, and as it turned out, Jake could get us the caps made in Europe with a turnaround time of around 3 weeks. (Vitas seem to do just about everything, except spiral grips. ;)) The president and I chatted for a while, and decided that we'd go with Jake, as Galaxy were so slow at replying, and I think we still haven't received the sample pictures. (Was also advised that they tend to have pretty lengthy turnaround times) So anyways, I paid for the caps on the 18th of April, and Jake said he'd get cracking on with them in the next couple of days, and they arrived at Vitas on the 8th of May, so just under the 3 week window.

Anyways, as the many sponsors or members who have dealt with me will know, I am prone to adding more to my order after paying, and I decided to go for something to treat myself at the beginning of May, as I had finished all my work for my semester, and was stuck in two minds between ordering an expensive bowling machine, or going with a GP274 bat and softs with a 'cheap' bowling machine. Naturally, I decided to go for the option with a bat, but have put the bat on hold, until I fully trim the collection. The GP274 would just be too good not to use, but also beautiful enough to just display and admire. (Already have enough in both categories!)

Anyways, enough with the chat, here are pictures of the purchase!

And no purchase can be complete without some batting equipment! The bats I didn't purchase from Jake directly, but are both from Vitas Cricket. (The LE was won in the competition last year, and the Supreme was a purchase from eBay) Both are absolute crackers, just makes match bat selection that much more difficult...

Can't say a huge amount at the moment, as I must go sleep, but the pads and gloves are beautifully made. I haven't seen any gloves or pads with this level of detail and quality in person at all. The only criticism I have is that they don't have padded straps, but that's quite minor for me. Initial thoughts are that the gloves are nice and snug, and pads seem to fit nicely. Both should break in nicely! Oh, and they're small mens size, and were the last of a limited run in that size I believe. :) These will be broken in, and replace the trusty Kookaburra Kahunas on nice and sunny days, where I just want to enjoy prancing around in classy gear. :D

Finally, a big thanks to Jake at Vitas for sorting this all out for me and my uni team. Fantastic service and product, as always, especially when dealing with my indecisiveness!

I believe the cap is held up by the feeder for the photo!

Nice gear Chad, keep wanting a paceman, but talk myself out of it, as doubt I'd have time to use it. Plus I'd need the battery pack with it.

Also your junk room needs a clear out! Harder issues.

i think its 60mph i usually set it up about 18 yards from the stumps.

i find it really useful just to get back into a rhythm and also for practicing shots

Yup, a 12 ball feeder comes with the bowling machine, and I think it's an additional £50 for an extender. (Extends to 24 balls) Sounds really pricey, but I believe it comes with 12 more balls, so it's not quite as bad. You just really need an extension cord or 2, as it's a standard mains plug, but with a very short wire!

Haha yup, I need to clear it up a bit! I'd recommend it more for hand eye coordination than proper netting, as the paceman light balls almost always fly! It's a very consistent machine, and easy enough to set up!

Haha sorry about that! It pings like crazy, a touch bottom heavy, but it's to be expected! I suspect it will be blistering many a straight drive along the carpet once I start using it! ;)

Yup, sounds like what I'd use it for! It's good for when you don't really move your feet much, but as with all bowling machines, too much of the same thing can lead to planting of the foot! I think the one thing I'm going to really practice with it is moving my head towards the line of the ball. I think Pietersen said that's what he is a strong advocate of, and that the rest of your body will follow if you stick to that basic.
