my first bat shaping experience
« on: October 15, 2014, 04:29:17 PM »

i recently bought a part made bat from red ink. i have always fancied having a go at shaping my own bat. it currently weight 2.15 i still need to sand and then bind the handle.
so hopefully the finish weight will be 2.12-2.14

before i started

after some shaping

basic final shape

still need to finsh the shoulder/handle area then give it a sanding

i have finished this so though i would share the final pics. weigh 2.15 a bit bottom heavy so i might shape out the spin from running all the way to the toe but apart from that i really like it. no concaving as I didnt want any and also my dad didnt have the tool for this.

i really enjoyed doing this just annoying my sander broke 3 times so i ended up hand sanding most of it

Top effort!
Get some weight off that toe area tho, should help that pick up loads.
Perfect for that new Dunster track

Great effort james, 'proper' bat that is :-)

Do you play for dunster as in west Somerset?

Ah ok. Have played with/against Chris Blazey a few times. It's the first year of having a dunster team isn't it?

first season in the league though.

Sorry that's what I meant.

first season in the league though.

Yes I've been playing for Kilve for years. We're in div 2 of the Shrubbery Somerset league at the mo but in all honesty I'll probably be in the 2nd XI next year which is div 5 of the West Somerset - and I think that'll be the same as you so look forward to playing against you :-)

We are aiming high and hoping to come 2nd bottom or higher. Should be good fun. Look forward to meeting somebody else off the forum
