I do avoid diving if at all possible but I'm hardly going to pull out of a catch when I'm sprinting full whack because I'll be thinking about the catch, not my knees. The pads will help in those situations.
Just to be clear, I'm looking for a knee pad to protect against impact such as when I'm diving and sliding whilst fielding. Not a knee support as most are suggesting.
When i payed football i got all sorts of stuff thrown at me, boots and goalie gloves were the key ones obviously, but i do remember Uhlsport, who were my longest running (and best aside from Selsport in my opinion) goalie glove sponsor giving me some rather good knee pads. I never wore them in matches but they were useful during training, especially on astro. They were called Uhlsport Alligators if i remember, and are probably long defunct. I haven't played football at all for a few years, and it's probably 5 years since i last played in goal at any kind of level so my knowledge is somewhat old. A quick browse of some popular goalie glove websites and i've found several similar products though. I would say to counter points made by others, these won't restrict your movement much, if at all, but equally just like a knee support they aren't massively thick but will certainly help when diving/sliding on a cricket pitch. http://www.just-keepers.com/4_Goalkeeper-Accessories/39_Goalkeeper-Elbow-amp-Knee-Pads/http://www.keepersport.co.uk/keepershop.html?tx_ksaktionspakete_pi1%5Bcat%5D=90http://www.prodirectsoccer.com/lists/goalkeeper-protection.aspx?p=all
valid point mate, think!!!! not diving may well add a few more years. It is time to accept that not everyone will be able to do everything. Time to listen to your body fellas.
