I agree with your points, the same can be said for most major sports tournaments, and would it be ok if the betting didn't run in those high numbers? Is Beefy doing anything to expose or rectify the situation.

I am not defending IPL or illegal betting, IPL should not be singled out.

IPL is now too big for Beefy and sorts.

People have got it inherently wrong.....IPL is not the evil, illegal betting, corruption and match fixing is!!!!

I absolutely agree, don't get me wrong, £1/$1 in match fixing is too much and the IPL has become a victim of its own success - its so high profile that illegal betting on it has gone through the roof, into the stratosphere - the amounts involved are mind-boggling.  I guess my concern is the flippancy attached to it by some of the owners/administrators/players (and I include Dhoni in that) - whether they mean to or not, they are trivialising the issue when, in my opinion, they should be speaking out in the strongest possible terms.  That was the reason for the quote.

Beefy isn't doing anything about it, aside from speaking out about it.  He's always been saying the ICC are too lightweight and don't make decisions - he'll probably pass it on to them as their issue to solve.  I agree he could do more, but at least people are talking about it again.

I do agree with your points.

And the structures around IPL that allow it to prosper also need to be singled out....

Absolutely, doesn't matter how big, famous, rich those structures are.

Arrests have been made, we are yet to see a big big name being brought to justice but at least someone somewhere is doing something about it.

from Betting Perspective, its not just IPL, all the major sports are rigged in to it. As per beefy, could you banish EPL(Football), F1 and so on???

From a Indian perspective, IPL is paying good amount of money to small local cricketers which they can only dream of. Also India has huge population and Imagine the number of lads take cricket as profession either has to be really lucky & brilliant to be in the squad or just give up at a point of time as it won't provide living for them by itself. From this point of view IPL is great. But again there are Other sides to it which doesn't make it real good. so there needs to be balance created between the formats of the sport.
