Portable Indoor Cricket mat and Portable Outdoor nets(frame)
« on: November 20, 2014, 08:03:12 AM »

Does anyone know about the Indoor cricket mats ? I have seen a few advertisement of the Notts Powerplay System but the cost is on the higher side. Not sure if the price is justifiable. Our Club was looking for a quality mat for mainly Indoors but if it can be used outdoor that will be great.

Also looking for a portable practice net frames which can be assembled easily.

Please suggest and if some forum sponsors here have any offer for such a system.

Having trained on a mat last year they're useful as they killed the tennis ball bounce and made the ball behave more like it would outside.
If they're worth the money or not is down to usage though.

As for portable nets we used poles you stick in the ground with a length of net cable tied to it. The groundsman loved that...

The same people who make the paceman bowling machine also make a "portable"/ "home use" batting net but at $500 it wasn't cheap, it's not that readily taken down, the quality isn't substantial, it would not stand northern hemisphere weather/ rust, the netting has more holes than intended, and most of all it is too small. It catches butterflies, brush turkeys (zombies of the avian world) and is ideal for big orb spiders. That said, I think they photographed a child or a small small man batting in it. Sorry i have no experience of the mats.

Thanks for the reply. Does anyone have idea about the quality of cricket mats and how much is required to be spent on the system.

We have a notts mat on concrete, was put in place 2/3 years ago now and we expect a minimum of 10 yrs out of it. As for the portable system I would think it is just as good...

Hi,
  Tushar

Basically I am looking for a Indoor cricket mat and if it can be used outdoor that will be an advantage.

Notts Powerplay System looks great but the price is very high, on their website they are quoting around 3800 pounds.

Hey Mate, where do you play? if you use your cricket governing body it would be cheaper. I was part of the provincial body and as part of the deal with Cricket Canada & Notts to get the system for multiple locations we paid close to $6000 CDN to get the mat, underlay pads, shipping and customs. Price you are quoting seems about right but if you contact your provincial body/national board they might already have some arrangement with Notts, its the same company that provided the temp surface to used at Toronto Blue Jay stadium for a t-20 tournament used by Cricket Canada.

Also keep in mind the portable system is more expensive because, well, it is portable so needs extra things to make sure its all good. What will you be using yours for? tennis ball or proper cricket ball? if its just for tennis ball nothing will be cheaper than going to your local hardware store and getting some plywood (to cover 3/4th length of the pitch) and buying cheapest available astro turf available as that kind it easy to roll and carry etc.

PM me if you have specific questions and i'll look up my old papers

With a proper indoor cricket ball , that too coz outdoor balls are not allowed to use indoors. My club is based in Finland and the funding for the game is not big.

Can you tell me the difference between the Indoor matts provided by Stellar or any other company vs the Notts ? The price for the Notts Powerplay System is around 3800 and the other indoor mats around 1800. Also any idea about the portable(Assemble) nets outdoor  and Indoor nets.
