Budget gloves

Dear keepers/sponsors of CBF,

I'm gonna be looking to do a decent amount of keeping indoors and in friendlies in 2015, and so I'm after a set of my own gloves rather than borrowing everyone else's for a change. Unlikely to ever be a serious keeper as I'm 6'3" and bowl a fair bit, but enjoy doing it, so it's not gonna be a high budget affair. What can you recommend for bargain basement gloves? Cheaper the better, although obviously I want some vaguely decent ones.

My experience of cheap gloves is they are exactly that, cheap, and usually nasty.

I am happy to have a look through what we have in stock and recommend something though

One of our keepers needed new gloves last season and had a look at the cheaper Kook gloves thinking "they can't be that bad"
The feedback was "they were that bad! It was worth paying more for a decent pair"

Our keepers cheap kook gloves last 3 games and the thumbs stitching went and he spent 30odd overs putting the thumb protected back in after every ball.

And they were 40quid!


Only glvoes I'd buy at the price is easbys ss ones he's just out up in the sale section........ Shame there blue and not green camo.

Of course, i might consider liberating a lightly used pair from my own collection, the quality won't be cheap/nasty but the price will be a bit more attractive. That's if i can't find anything good to offer you from our stock.

I will add I've got a pair of Hunts County Mettle ones for the rare occasions I keep. (Up to twice a season sometimes!)
Think they can be had for about £25 and do the job well enough for me - they do take a bit of knocking/wearing in though.

I'd also warn you mine seem to have a Teflon coating on the palms (or that might just be my ability....)

You can get a pair of Slazenger Elite gloves for 15 quid direct from the slazenger store. Just type in slazenger elite wicket keeping gloves into a search engine and look for the store.slazenger.com website

Thanks for all the responses guys, this is why I love this forum. Feedback about the cheap ones not being worth it was very helpful in particular, I've ended up going with a set of Red Ink gear to match the kit I already have.

I just got the newberry tour gloves and had a single net for 30 mins keeping in them. Quite flelixble and supple but I would say they will get a bit softer. In terms of protection I hardly felt the ball when catching it (50 mph standing up) but I did have aero p1 keeping inners on.

john at red ink has some last year model gloves for sale. not sure what they are like as i dont know anybody that has used them but his bats are top notch
