Topic: First game for new club (Read 2391 times)

So on Sunday I have my first game for my new club, I've never met any of them before, I have no idea about the standard of the league and it's in a country I've only lived in for 2 months...what could possibly go wrong?

In my head I'm thinking out 4th or 5th ball having not made contact with the previous deliveries, shell a couple of catches and get taken off after 2 overs for 30.

Surely it won't be that bad.

40 ball ton up and 5/20 with the ball including 3 c&b no bother mate.

Take your time, don't be rushed by anyones expectations. Have a word with the cap about the wickets, anything off about and what not. Quality of the bowlers if he knows. And do you best.

In my first game for my current club I ran out 4 people and dropped 2 catches. If they are a decent bunch of lads they will forgive you and in time run you out and get their revenge

Dont put pressure on yourself by all means think about your batting and bowling but play your way doing what you know works for you.

Performance anxiety never helps. Show 100% commitment on the field. Be vocal on the field, support your bowlers, appreciate good fielding and crack some jokes in between to lighten the mood. This will help u ease into the new team. You have a full season to meet performance expectation. Don't worry about ur first game ..

Thanks for all your kind words of support, played today and it could have gone a lot worse. The weather wasn't great so everyone decided to play 20/20 rather than 40/40. I told them I'm a middle order batsman and can bowl a few overs of dodgy off spin if needed.

We bowled first they gave me 3 over I took 3-18 including a wicket with my first delivery!

I didn't have a great deal to do in the field but was as vocal as I could be, we knocked off their 121/10 off in the 17th over for 2 down so I didn't get a bat but I'm happy with a bit of a bowl.

Good bunch of blokes who made me feel very welcome. Let's hope the season goes well.

Second game for new club today....went in number four and on the artificial wicket I got one of these first up.

I then kept wicket cause there keeper had not shown up, only done it 2 or 3 times before and it was hard work on the dodgy astro pitch but I did ok.

We won against a good team which was the best part.

On to next week!

Last season was my first season at my new club (I played most of my colts cricket there but left for 5 years) and my first net session was very positive bowling on one of the practice tracks I managed to get some decent spin and cause some trouble. When batting I was hitting the ball quite well. On the Saturday I had to start in the 4th XI and earn my promotion up the teams. I batted at 4 (which was the highest I had batted for 6 years) and actually felt pretty good for a player that batted between 9 and 11 for many seasons. I managed to get 51 which was my first 50 hitting a few nice sixes along the way before being bowled in the last couple of overs. I also managed to get a couple of wickets as the sixth bowler (it was a friendly so as I batted for a while I bowled less overs). Not a bad debut in my opinion. The next day I played a Sunday friendly with many of the 2nd team players. I opened the batting and got a healthy 39 including a massive six out of the ground hitting the side of a house. God damn 39 its definitely become my bogey score as 3 times have I sat on 39 and 3 times I've got out (two of the occasions I wasn't aware what score I was on. In my last competitive game for my old club I was batting at 11 in a lost cause game so I decided to have some fun hitting 39 in about 25 balls before getting out on the last ball of the game.
