New Bats
« on: March 16, 2015, 08:17:53 AM »

Hi all,

This is my first post. Apologies if I mess this up!

Anyway, I have kept an eye on this forum for a few years now.  Thanks to everyone out there that makes it what it is - such an interesting source of info for all things cricket.

The purpose of my post is to give James Laver and the team at Laver & Wood a good word for their recent service.

Basically, after a few years of contemplating whether to order a custmer Laver (and trying to make do with 2nd-hand Lavers) I decided to put down the cash just before Christmas.

Unfortunately, the custom reserve (same profile as Matthew Hayden's GN Fusion from a few years back) arrived and it wasn't what I expected.  Wrong labelling, and it arrive late.

I had a small 'moan' on the email to Ant at LW.

The result was a free repalcement bat. Made to my specs. The replacement was delivered to another country (I was down in Australia originally) on time, with no extra customs charges.

Attached are the bats. The new 'replacement' has the 'Retro' labelling.

I am very very VERY happy now - thought I would pass on the good work here.  BTW the original Laver goes really well.  The new Laver also taps up really well too (I am waiting for nets to figure out which one is better).

Thanks again for all your posts. I hope this works. I will try and post some pictures now!

Yes.  Certainly did.  I thinks James down at LW in N.Z. is getting excited by the Kiwi's good showing in the CWC at the moment! Worth a mention, seriously.

The reserve goes really well.  Used it once in a match in Australia. Hit a straight six on a large ground just swinging my arms through the ball. It does weigh 2 lbs 13 though. 10 straight grains. Oval handle.. 1/2 inch long blade.

Personally, I love the look of the 'replacement' reserve labelling.

This one is 2.10. It has what I think is some interesting characteristics. Heartwood on the outside edge and some butterfly grain (or 'graping' just under the splice).  13 grains.

Anyway, time will tell how they go.  Glad you can see the photos now ... rookie playa!
