I find that a lot of the lighter pads tend to look very silly...I think VKS also do a lightweight pad in their own brand but I found someone on here who bought them and posted pics and I found aesthetically they looked cheap.
If you're looking for 500 grams I'd say you'll probably be buying pads that make you look silly when you go out to bat.
I think those VKS pads didn't photo well. I rolled them up tight with bungees when I first bought them which made them look drain pipe straight and I must concede the photos made the protection look thin but the protection certainly is not. For £37 (I think), the protection is good for mid 70 mph, they are not ambidextrous as advertised so there is reasonable calf protection for the right hand batsman, they are good to run in, and looks are innocuous and I say that having played 5 months in them with the kind of teammates that make the oppo's sledging feel like compliments.
