Help - Problem with grip applied to bat
« on: April 14, 2015, 06:07:44 PM »

Hi Guys,

This is my first post and was wondering if anyone had any advice to solve this problem.

A youth player asked for help with this mess of applying a grip (Photo attached).

Was wondering if there is an easy solution or is it a case of cutting it off and doing it again.

Cheers guys

Have you tried rolling it off completely??

If it won't and gets stuck. You can start at the top. And try to lift away from the bat at the edge and pull working your way around the handle. It will only move a few 2 - 5mm  on every full rum. But eventually will sort itself out.

Looks grim!  Well done for getting a pic in your first post.

In the mean time, you will need to roll the grip off and start again. Might require some brute force. But doable.

Those grips aren't easy to put on.

Cheers for the advice, think i've made some progress but these grips are so thick and tough which is a good thing but a bad thing if you get into a mess like this.

Just glad i've not had to replace one on my own Icon.

I struggled with the GM grip this morning but in the end succeeded. Right that these are very thick and not that easy to apply.  ;)

Taking your time and getting your grip rolled onto the grip cone evenly then doing the same as you roll the grip down the bat handle makes a huge difference when rolling the grip back up the handle. Saves a lot of time in getting it to look neat.

Does anyone else just put some vaseline on the handle and the grip just slides on.
No need for a cone.
I've not had a problem with the grip slipping as the vaseline seems to dry up.

Will perish the gip because it's petroleum based.

The problem is the thickness of the grip and the grip pattern they can be fiddly and time consuming to fit  you need to remove the grip from the handle and apply talcum powder to the handle   straighten the grip and  re roll it down the bat cone onto the Handle roll the grip down to the bottom of the handle tape it and and carefully roll the grip back up the handle also stretch the grip away from the handle as you roll it if the grip doubles up (as in photo) because of the grip thickness and design repeat the process.
