New masuri - Elite vs. Test
« on: May 07, 2015, 05:09:18 PM »

Evening all

I have decided I'd like a new masuri with a titanium grille and a stem guard (I've even sorted out where I'm sourcing it and what colour).

I'd like some advice from users/retailers however.
Is the single grille or the double grille the better option?
The single (I'd imagine) would have better visibility, but the double bar is obviously safer.

Which would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

The Elite has the better visibility mate. Providing it is worn at the correct angle on the head it offers a slightly larger gap, and the two bars line up so you only see one. The Test models solitary bar sits a bit higher up the eyeline in order to offer the same level of safety (smaller gap) as the Elite.

There isn;t a great deal of difference but in a world where all the gaps on new standard helmets are smaller, every millimetre counts!

The Elite model with the double bar has better visibility than the Test model. The reason for this is that the upper bar is in the same position as the single bar in the Test model, but it's set back.

As its set back, it's out of your field of vision and therefore gives you an extra 4mm of vision area when compared to the single bar model.

Because the Elite model has 2 bars, it gives the impression that the bars are higher and therefore restrict vision, whereas it's actually the opposite.

Double Bar Design = More Vision

I hope this makes sense.

Do the weight of these helmets (supposedly exceptionally heavy, even with Ti) take time getting used to?

I'd rather have a heavy helmet than end up 6ft under!

Some people say yes, some say no. I've wandered round the shop in them enough to confidently say i don't think they feel too different when on your head. Yes they definitely feel heavier when held in the hands.

No difference in either weight or vision from a practical standpoint. I had a lot of trouble with vision for exactly one net. Did a full hour with BOLA, really struggled, but now the vision is just like any other helmet.

As for the weight, I haven't noticed anything from a practical standpoint.

They're not available until August pal.

As I'm a sucker for great service I've ordered mine (along with a lid to attach it to) from Jake (@Vitas Cricket), who is always my first port of call when I need new kit now.

I believe @VKS are also stocking them, and I can highly recommend their service too from experience.

IMO they arent that much different whilst on your head. Feels like they fit my massive meatball head better than previous versions and feels a lot more secure so to me that helps negate the extra weight
